I’m Me, And That’s The Best Person To Be!

My name is Ruby-Leigh Smith, I’m seventeen years old, and a Romany Gypsy. I attend school full-time. I write for a magazine based in Hereford, called Travellers Times, and I review books for them as well as writing pieces to be published on their site, which can be found below.

I have my own music blog, and I set it because I wanted to write about what I love – music. I have a real passion for it, and my entire life revolves around song. I wanted to share my love for music with the world, but I didn’t know the best way to do it. I want everyone to feel about music how I do… and here at Encore, I’ve found minds likened to my own.

Here, all we do is obsess over music. We love it. We live it. Everything else takes a backseat (including my last essay for university, oops). You can view my blog using the button below.

Music helps me to cope with everyday life; I have high functioning autism, diagnosed only in 2017, which is quite late. Because of my late diagnosis, I didn’t know a lot about how to cope, and it was like that until I got the diagnosis, and even after… but over the past few years, I’ve developed ways – and music helps me so much. With music, I can calm down. It’s incredible, really. I can focus, and take myself out of daily life. Music allows me to take a deep breath and carry on without a meltdown.

What I really want is to be a journalist, though. My personal blog and the posts which I make on Encore are kind of like my portfolio… but I do so much more beyond this. I have reviewed books for Sir Paul McCartney and award-winning journalist Lesley-Ann Jones. I also contribute to every issue of Teatles magazine, a fan-made magazine which is devoted entirely to The Beatles drinking tea.

I want to be backstage at every gig and concert, sitting there with a list of questions talking to my heroes, past and present. But I can’t do all that… yet. This is step one on my long road to success. Thank you so much for sharing in it with me. Enjoy the blog, and please get in contact with thoughts, queries and questions.
